One thing I have found to be a distraction when I sit down to work on my main project is that my mind starts to drift to other characters and what is happening with their stories. In the past I’ve let my focus wonder to any project I’ve been inspired to work on at any given time. If the inspiration is there, why not make the most of it and focus on that story until motivation leaves and takes me on to another one?
It’s all well and good when I don’t have readers waiting for a story and all of my work is just for fun. But the trouble is, I still haven’t finished a story to the point of being ready to be published and enjoyed by readers. Thats the main reason that I told myself that this year I would focus on just one story until it was finished. I give myself a little space for new ideas – I’ll jot down the idea and save a few inspiring images so that when I can get back to it I know where I was going with the idea and I can get back to it easily. But for the most part I’ve put my focus on my Round Table Royals (working title for the series) and book 1.
All I seem to want to write at the moment is scenes for my Daughters of Earth series *sigh*. And nothing is having true progress made on it! I get caught up in figuring out how I want the world I’m creating to look and come across to readers. Not only that but thinking about the relationships between these characters that come to me is a lot of fun. It’s exciting to uncover their story and to learn how they find each other.
For tonight I will push through and do my best to get a couple of pages of Arthur and Guinevere’s story onto the page. The more I immerse myself in their world the easier it is to write so I just need to keep at it. Make the most of the cold wet weather and enjoy being inside.
